Massage Therapy

Therapeutic massage describes any type of massage modality that helps relieve pain, reduce stress, or work on a specific problem. Using specific modalities and techniques, we transform a regular massage into what your body needs. Depending on which practitioner you see will influence which modalities are offered.

Relaxation/ Stress Management

A relaxation massage can help lower the amount of cortisol in your body (stress hormone) while also assisting your body to release serotonin (feel good, happy hormone). By lowering cortisol and increasing serotonin, you're boosting your body's ability to fight off pain, anxiety and feelings of sadness.

Lymphatic and Pain Management

The proper functioning of the lymphatic system is crucial to our body's ability to flush out toxins, foreign substances, drain stagnant fluids, detoxify, regenerate tissues, and maintain a healthy immune system. This technique requires a committed timetable, it is not effective if done at random intervals.

BOWEN THERAPY is a light touch therapy that stimulates re-callibration of the body which can effect a change in multiple body systems. Bowen creates a shift in the tension of the body, both mental and physical to promote optimal functioning within the body. Gentle enough for infants to chronic pain sufferers.

PHYSIOKEY BIOADAPTIVE FREQUENCY THERAPY uses high amplitude, high density, bio-feedback controlled pulse stimulation to cutaneous nerves, activating the body’s natural pain relieving mechanisms. The effect is achieved through the stimulation of reflective zones and acupuncture points on the skin surface. The aim of treatment with the Physio is rapid pain relief and pain management, and functional improvement.

Craniosacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction, and improve whole-body health and performance. CranioSacral Therapy is appropriate for all ages.

Specialized Kinesiology

Specialized kinesiology is the art of assessing the energetic systems of a person by using precision muscle testing as a biofeedback mechanism. This allows the practitioner to identify areas of deep emotional stress and change the way they affect the body. Specialized kinesiology works to integrate the physical, mental and emotional bodies into a unified whole.

PEMF Vascular Therapy

PEMF stands for pulsed electromagnetic fields, which uses magnets to help your body heal by reducing inflammation, improving circulation, decreasing oxidative stress, increasing lymphatic drainage of toxins, and improving oxygen uptake in the tissues (increases energy).

It all started when I got a job in an insulation packing plant ….and developed a repetitive strain injury in less than a month.

I was working 12 hour shifts doing the same movements day after day. One morning I woke up and my ring finger on my left hand was tingling. It soon spread to my pinkie finger and then ring and pinkie on my right hand as well. I was referred to a doctor who said I had carpal tunnel, an ER doctor told me there was nothing wrong/that he could do, a chiropractor to fix my crooked neck and back posture, and a massage therapist to loosen up my arms. NONE of them did any type of nerve tests to see where the problem was coming from or help alleviate the now searing pain that was shooting down the back of my left arm from armpit to fingers, making sleep impossible. Then I was sent to a chiropractor who specialized in A.R.T. and soft tissue injuries….After 2-3 treatments per week for 6 months the problem was gone, but it required stretching 4x daily, bi-weekly massage, and weekly chiropractic appointments to keep the scar tissue from coming back and my problem from returning.

I decided I wanted to help people like that and enrolled in the massage therapy program at Medicine Hat College in 2002. We learned physiology, pathology, orthopedics, biomechanics, and I discovered my love of Anatomy. Classes included lumbar assessments, abdominal massage, pre- and post- natal and labour and delivery massage, TMJD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction) and MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) treatments…. While there I was offered the chance to take an ‘Aromatherapy and the Therapeutic Uses of Essential Oils’ course as an add-on to my massage therapy training. “Essential oils can make your hands feel stronger and feel 3” deeper”. I was intrigued but skeptical since I was allergic to ‘scents’. It was here that I met a man who has since become my mentor in essential oils- Blaine Andrusek of Blaine Andrusek Phytotherapeutics based in Calgary, AB. We learned about the chemical components of oils, the potential dangers of their misuse, proper dilutions, why specific oils must be held in high regard for both their potency and ecosystem fragility, and when to use the oils in different forms- topically, inhalation, etc. We were able to make our own blends under direct supervision with a wide array of carrier oils. It was an amazing class that ended 5 classroom days with an herb walk/botany lesson in Elkwater, AB. After the classes I began to make and use my own blends at home since I noticed my allergies were clearing up. Turns out I was allergic to whatever crap was living in the carpets of my rental apartment and using oils such as Peppermint, Ravensara, and Eucalyptus helped me breathe better at night, letting me get more sleep and function better during class. Win!! Classmates liked some of the blends I made so they bought some…then clients started asking for the blends I was using on them and ‘do you have something for _’….. I now use oils daily to help cope with stress, allergies, sick kids, and the various bumps and bruises that occur from an active lifestyle. I use these blends during massage treatments and sell to the public as well.

When I’m not at the clinic I enjoy being outside with my family- mountain biking, hiking, skiing, and camping in the mountains. I grew up in Flin Flon, MB playing hockey and baseball, and loving all things sports related.

As an RMT, CST for nearly 18 years; my career shifted in 2017-2018 to focus more on Craniosacral Therapy. Over 2019 I completed several advanced studies, including Pediatrics 1 & 2; and wrote my designation exam; and became a Teacher Assistant for Upledger Institute.

My treatment modalities have shifted as the intention of why I practice in Massage has shifted. The evolution of body work to move away from the aggressive applications due to ongoing research, study and understanding of the body as a WHOLE not looking at symptoms as an assessment tool.

My Modalities Include: Massage Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Somato Emotional Release, Craniosacral Therapy Pediatrics, MELT Method Instructor, Yoga Instructor - Experienced Level, University of Calgary Cancer Yoga Teacher, Active Isolated Stretching, Progressing Ballet Technique

PEMF Vascular Therapy improves microcirculation and promotes the blood flow in the smallest blood vessels. This improves the performance of the body’s cells, which in turn favours the body’s own self-healing powers. The improvement of microcirculation, i.e. blood flow to the smallest blood vessels, benefits your health, your immune system and your overall sense of well-being in a variety of ways.

So how does PEMF actually work? Its all due to the magnetic pulse that is emitted from your PEMF system. The first and foremost way it works is by reducing inflammation in your cells by improving circulation, decreasing oxidative stress, and increasing lymphatic drainage of toxins. Essentially, when your body has inflammation, you can’t heal properly. You need to reduce those deep levels of inflammation so your body can start healing!

Another great benefit of reducing this deep-seated inflammation is that it increases oxygen uptake in the tissue by up to 200% and increases cell energy production by up to 500%!! This means more energy for you. And who doesn’t want more energy?
